Gay St. Petersburg

Sure, sure, every tourist - gay, straight or bisexual - loves basking in the sun and fun of Miami but aren’t we missing something? With an estimated average of more than 300 sunny days a year, Gay St. Petersburg lays claim to the title “The Sunshine City” and the peninsula city is fast becoming a hot spot for tourism on Florida’s Gulf Coast.

St. Petersburg, or St. Pete to those who know it well, is known - let’s say renowned - for the beauty of its white, sandy beaches. In 2005, the annual Dr. Beach rankings rated Fort Desoto the number one beach in America. But, St. Petersburg isn’t just sandy beaches, the city itself offers several great museums, quaint shops, entertainment and outstanding restaurants and bars. St. Petersburg has a children’s museum, a Museum of Fine Arts with a 39,000-square-foot modern wing that opened in 2008, a history museum, a Holocaust museum, and the Salvador Dalí Museum, which houses the largest collection of Dalí‘s work outside Spain. You will also find smaller art galleries and entertainment, especially Downtown, where development has boomed in the last 10 years.

The city also contains an aquarium and sightseeing boat trips. A replica of the HMS Bounty - used in the 1962 film starring Marlon Brando - is frequently docked at The Pier.

There are a few gay hotels in St. Petersburg, but plenty of gay-friendly hotels, inns and guesthouses. Click here for our St. Petersburg Lodging List.
